Privacy policy – Accumulator
Readers of the accumulator guides leave very little personal data behind, and only what an information site needs is processed. The UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 set the rules, and this policy discharges the duty to inform under Article 13 of the UK GDPR.
Who is responsible
The controller under Article 4(7) UK GDPR is the body that runs this site. Name, address and e-mail address are available at accumulatorguide.com, and the same channel handles every question about personal data.
Data collected
Opening a page makes the server write a log entry: IP address, date and time, the address requested, the volume of data sent, the referring page and the type of browser. Logs serve security and the detection of abuse; after 90 days they are deleted or shortened so that no person can be identified from them. A reader who writes to the editors also supplies a name, an e-mail address and the message itself, used solely to reply. There are no reader accounts, no deposits and no bets, so payment details and identity documents are never collected.
Purposes and lawful bases
Logs and protection against abuse rest on the controller’s legitimate interests in running a working and secure site (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR), and so does the answering of messages. Non-essential cookies and audience measurement need consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR together with regulation 6 of PECR) and start only after it is given. Consent can be withdrawn at any time without affecting earlier processing (Article 7(3)). No automated decisions are taken and no profiling takes place.
Recipients and international transfers
Nothing is sold. Data reaches processors who host the site, deliver its content and handle e-mail on the controller’s instructions (Article 28 UK GDPR), and public authorities where the law demands it. Transfers outside the United Kingdom happen only to countries covered by adequacy regulations or under appropriate safeguards such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum (Article 44 onwards).
Retention
Server logs are kept for 90 days at most. Correspondence is kept until the matter is closed and for as long as needed to meet possible claims. Supplying data in a message is voluntary, though no reply is possible without it.
Individual rights
Each person may ask for access (Article 15), rectification (Article 16), erasure (Article 17), restriction (Article 18) and portability (Article 20), and may object to processing based on legitimate interests (Article 21). A request is answered without undue delay and within one month of receipt, a period that can be extended by a further two months under Article 12(3).
Complaints
The supervisory authority is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Anyone who considers that the processing of their data breaches data protection law may complain to it (Article 77 UK GDPR).
